Getting started

XiaoQi is a menu bar app. It counts the time you are actually active and covers the screen when you reach your work limit.

Requirements

macOS 14 or later. The current build is version 0.1 and has not been released or signed for distribution.

Launch XiaoQi

XiaoQi appears in the menu bar and has no Dock icon. On first launch it stays ready until it sees keyboard or mouse activity, so it does not count time while you are away from the Mac.

Read the menu bar

The title looks like:

🐱 32:15 · 歇 2

The menu uses Chinese labels. This is what each one means:

Label Meaning
Start / Pause
Take a break now
Meeting mode (30 / 60 / 120 minutes)
End meeting
Today’s breaks and streak
Settings
Open the log file
退出 Quit

Start, pause, and take a break now

Defaults

All four are adjustable in Settings. See Settings and stats.

Interface language

The current build uses Chinese interface labels; this page maps them to English. Interface localization is planned.
